Laura Andrew, Registered, Certified Art Therapist
For the past ten years I have worked with people in the capacity of art therapist.
I am honored to serve as a faculty member, supervisor and thesis advisor at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute where I support art therapists in training.
I work within a holistic approach weaving relational, strengths-based, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive frameworks to help people discover their inner strengths, increase self-awareness, orient to health and wellness, process and move through trauma, and improve capacity for mindfulness and presence.
I am a culturally sensitive art therapist and it is my intention to walk-along side the people I work with. I hold a strong belief in the power of the expressive arts as an agent for personal growth and healing. .
I hold a certificate in eco-psychology and specialize in ecological art therapy and land-based healing. I offer outdoor sessions in nature, where clients can explore their relationship with self and the more-then-human world, create art with natural materials and with the cycles and metaphors imminent in nature.
I feel privileged to live, work and play on the unceded territory of the Sinixt, Syilx and Ktunaxa peoples, in the wild mountain-forest landscape of the Kootenays. I am a fourth generation Settler and I grew up on a farm in rural Alberta. After completing an undergraduate degree in Biology, I lived, worked and traveled in Asia for over a dozen years. I bring diverse life experiences and a deep connection and love for nature into my work, along with a passion for people, creativity and wellness.
I am Registered with the Canadian Art Therapy Association. To see my listing with the Canadian Art Therapy Association, click HERE

Why do Art?
Since the beginning of time and across cultures, humans have used art for self-expression, communication, comfort, ritual and healing. The need to play and create comes naturally to children, but sometimes gets lost or buried in the busy lives of adults. Art therapy is a powerful way to harness your creativity for personal growth, wellness, change, and healing, to reconnect with your inner child, and reclaim your sense of wonder, awe and discovery.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a modality for self-expression which integrates psychology and the creative process of art making as a means of communication. Feelings, ideas and experiences that are often difficult to express through language come to the surface and may be externalized through imagery, color, symbol and metaphor. Creating art within a safe space and therapeutic relationship provides an opportunity to explore and express our rich inner experiences and allows for personal insight, empowerment, and increased well-being.
