We live in a time when we are constantly on the go with work and activities, earning a living, and taking care of others. It is so important that we take time in our daily lives to slow down, and to take care of ourselves. Self care is about the activities that we do with intention in order to relax, ground, and re-center ourselves. It's about finding ways to honor ourselves, to give ourselves permission to rest and relax. There are many ways that we can do this! Yoga, meditation and mindfulness, epsom salt baths, exercise, and time spent in nature are a few. The creative arts are another way that we can come back to our natural rhythms, decrease stress and anxiety, and take time to feel and express the emotions that we are feeling. Whether you make a doodle, create a picture using bingo dabbers (fun release for stress!), construct with hot glue and recyclables, draw a mandala, scribble on a page, make a collage, work with clay, take a snapshot of the beauty of your moment and share it on instagram, these are all creative outlets for self-expression and/or relaxation. Spontaneity, playfulness, and letting go of control help us to connect with our inner child, and also increases our longevity!
