What does an Individual Art Therapy Session Look Like?
I offer secure and confidential virtual art therapy sessions as well as in-person local outdoor sessions. Due to the pandemic, I have not started working indoors with clients yet, but hope to in the near future.
When we begin working together we will have an initial meeting to discuss your personal history and goals for the art therapy. As a relational, person-centered art therapist, I believe that every individual has the drive and the power to heal, and that your individual treatment plan is within you. We will work together to highlight your strengths, resources and goals as we develop a treatment plan. For an individual session I provide a safe space and a range of simple art materials for you to choose from, including drawing and painting materials, collage, and natural and recycled materials. We begin by checking in and grounding, and then move into art making where it is my role to hold space and witness the your creative process. Finally, you will be guided to look at your art and explore personal associations, symbols, feelings and narrative that arise. The art is viewed as an extension of the artist, having its own story to tell.
